Why Health Coverage?
"One Coloradan dies every day due to lack of health insurance." – Families USA
More than 800,000 Coloradans—17 percent of the population—do not have health coverage, including 175,000 children. Many more are underinsured. People without health coverage and those with inadequate coverage are more likely to go without recommended preventive care, delay treatment until illness is serious, and die from potentially preventable and treatable disease. Yet, two-thirds of Colorado's uninsured are from families with an annual income of $20,000 or more and one in ten are from families with an annual income of $75,000 or more.
Working in a diversity of settings and partnering with a variety of organizations, our goal is to ensure all Coloradans have access to Health Coverage because people who do are more likely to receive necessary care. To achieve this goal, we work in the following areas:
- Maximize enrollment of eligible individuals in Medicaid and CHP+ by simplifying the enrollment and renewal processes
- Increase the number of children and adults who have insurance that is affordable and includes necessary benefits
- Increase the number of providers that participate in Medicaid, CHP+ and Medicare
- Create benefit packages and financial incentives for integrated care
