Healthy Living Policy

Our commitment to make Colorado the healthiest state in the nation includes efforts to improve access to the key components of Healthy Living by influencing health policy. We support public policy that:

  • Requires physical education curriculum in schools
  • Limits the sale of unhealthy foods in schools, including vending machines
  • Expands chronic disease self-management programs

Our Healthy Living policy work is directed at creating public will to encourage healthy eating and active living.

Initiatives
Working with our partners, we support efforts to improve access to the components of Healthy Living for all Coloradans.

Colorado Children's Immunization Coalition
Formed in 1991 in the wake of reports showing that only about half of all Colorado children were adequately immunized, the Colorado Children's Immunization Coalition (CCIC) has been working to improve immunization rates in the state. CCIC has also launched public awareness campaigns and helped educate physicians and parents about the safety of vaccines and their proven ability to prevent diseases such as whooping cough, chickenpox, hepatitis A and B, Haemophilus influenzae type B and meningococcus. In 2007, we granted CCIC $150,000 to support the Coalition's continuing efforts to increase childhood immunization coverage through education, outreach and public policy initiatives.

Stapleton Foundation
The Stapleton Foundation works to advocate, sustain and realize the principles of the 1995 Stapleton Master Development Plan. The organization strives to create a community connected to surrounding neighborhoods, as well as a sustainable model in education, employment, open space, housing diversity and development. In 2007, the Colorado Health Foundation granted the Stapleton Foundation $208,000 to engage people from various walks of life to identify important health and health care problems and to create opportunities to address them.
