DENVER — At the annual Dorsey
Hughes Symposium on health care reform held last week in
Beaver Creek, Colo., William Lindsay received the distinguished
John K. Iglehart Award for Leadership in Health Policy.
Created to recognize an individual whose wisdom, involvement and leadership have
helped define and move forward positive reform in health care, the award is named
after John K. Iglehart, founding editor of Health
Affairs, a health policy journal. The award honors Lindsay’s dedication
to health care reform in Colorado.
The
president of Lockton Companies, LLC, a firm specializing in insurance,
risk management and employee benefits, Lindsay was appointed to
head the Blue Ribbon Commission for Health Care Reform, established
by the Colorado legislature in 2006 in Senate Bill 208. Lindsay
led the group, referred to as the 208 Commission, in studying and
establishing health care reform models to expand health coverage
and to decrease health care costs for Colorado residents. He and
the other Commission members dedicated thousands of volunteer hours
to gather community input, review proposals and develop the Commission’s
recommendations that were presented to the legislature earlier
this year.
A Colorado native, Lindsay is widely respected in his own state
and nationally for his leadership, professionalism and commitment
to comprehensive health reform and his ability to build bridges
between business and health policy and between insurers and consumers.
He has published numerous articles and white papers on insurance,
employee benefits, health care and health care reform. He frequently
speaks before state and national groups and has testified several
times before Congress.
“Bill’s innate ability to inspire and build consensus
is just what Colorado needs in a leader who is truly committed
to health care reform,” said M. Thomas Boyer, chairman of
The Colorado Health Foundation’s Board of Directors. “His
commitment to finding solutions to Colorado’s and the nation’s
health care challenges will go unmatched.”
In sincere appreciation for Lindsay’s leadership, inspiration
and commitment to the field of health care policy, the Foundation
will make a $10,000 contribution to a health care nonprofit of
Lindsay’s choice.
The legacy of the annual Dorsey
Hughes Symposium, produced by The
Colorado Health Foundation, is in large part due to the guidance
and leadership of John Iglehart. Last year, the Foundation established
a new tradition to inspire others when it created the John K.
Iglehart Award for Leadership in Health Policy, which recognizes
Iglehart’s more than 20 years of dedication to the Symposium,
as well as his immense contribution to the discussion of health
care policy through his work at Health Affairs and The
New England Journal of Medicine.
