Funding Overview

Description: Allocate funding to partners in two-year grants to implement systems of support and healthy schools infrastructure (across comprehensive physical activity, nutrition, behavioral health and student health services).

Funding Time Frame: Up to two years of funding. 

Grant Deadline: Not accepting applications. This work is in progress.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Non-profits and government entities
  • Open to organizations with statewide or regional focus. Regional is defined as working across multiple cities/counties and multiple school districts.

Statewide systems building grants are focused on:

One or more of the following systems building functions:

  • Data & Assessment of Best Practices: Continuing to build statewide systems to collect data, assess best practices and celebrate excellence
  • Continuum of Practices: Expanding implementation of a continuum of practices that ensure students have health knowledge, skills and supports
  • Qualified Staff/Professional Development: Supporting efforts to ensure an adequate number of qualified staff and professional development opportunities, leading to:
    • An adequate number of school staff with the capacity to support the components of a healthy school
  • Communications & Marketing: Communications and marketing on the importance of healthy schools, leading to:
    • Administrator support for healthy schools
    • Local teams of community, staff, families, and students leading change
    • State and local policymaker support
    • Funder support
  • Policy Agenda: Developing and implementing a long-term policy agenda for healthy schools, leading to:
    • State and local policies that create incentives for, provide resources to, and support healthy schools
    • Integration of health into school accountability systems
  • Research: Research related to healthy schools, leading to having data to inform decision-making

Evaluation is an important part of this overall funding strategy and the work of HSCI. Grantees are actively participating in the evaluation that is part of HSCI including periodic data submissions for inclusion in a shared measurement system and participating in surveys, interviews and small group discussions to debrief the learning. 

We often partner with third-party evaluators, contractors and other organizations over the course of our work with applicants and grantees. Your application and its attachments may be shared with these individuals or entities during the review process and grant cycle. All third-party organizations partnering with the Foundation have signed a confidentiality agreement and will not use or share the information for purposes outside of the scope of work specific to the grant application or grant award.
