Building Better Health: Megan's Story

Megan BBH

In the process of expanding her residential and commercial cleaning business to include organizing services, Megan was given some bad news. The pain she was experiencing was a bi-lateral inguinal hernia and it would need surgery. Unfortunately, she had only purchased catastrophic insurance before the Affordable Care Act, which would force her to pay $5,000 if she wanted the procedure. Money she didn’t have if she wanted to keep her business afloat. That was when she got serious.

Megan went down to the Boulder Human Services building, part of the state-wide system of assistance site locations, and met with a navigator who helped her through the process of enrolling through Connect for Health Colorado.

“Through the exchange I was able to shop for a plan that really worked best for me, knowing that I was going to be incurring more health care costs than I ever had before in my life,” Megan said.
