The Colorado Health Foundation Announces Retirement of Mark Evans

The Colorado Health Foundation (CHF) today announced that Mark Evans, who has served as Chief Financial and Administrative Officer since 2019, will retire in the summer of 2025. Evans has been pivotal in advancing the organization’s mission and strengthening its financial resilience, ensuring long-term sustainability and impact.

Evans joined The Colorado Health Foundation following nearly a decade as CFO at the University of Colorado (CU) Medicine, where he deepened his passion for mission-driven work. With nearly three decades of experience across multiple sectors, Evans brought financial and operational expertise to the Foundation. He was drawn by the alignment of its mission and the critical nature of its work and was inspired by the dedication and passion of the staff and Board, as well as the diversity of experiences and perspectives that shape the Foundation’s approach to addressing systemic inequities. Reflecting on his time at CHF, he describes it as amazing, fulfilling, challenging and fun.

Over the years, Evans built enduring relationships with colleagues and led a finance and operations team focused on achieving results and supporting the mission.

Among his contributions, Evans played a key role in the ongoing redevelopment of 1799 Pennsylvania Street in Denver, built the infrastructure necessary to support the Governor’s COVID-19 Relief Fund, secured $85 million in low-cost debt to fund critical strategic initiatives, streamlined financial processes, enhanced reporting and analytics, and recruited, retained and developed top-tier talent. His leadership and strategic vision have strengthened the Foundation’s financial position and operational capacity, enabling continued impact across the state.

“I am incredibly proud to have ended my professional career at The Colorado Health Foundation,” said Evans. “CHF and its people have left an indelible mark on me. I look forward to continuing to advance the cause of historically under-resourced communities, being a strong advocate for change, and using my time in new ways—through service, travel, learning, health and deepened relationships.”

“I am so very grateful for Mark’s contributions, leadership and friendship,” said Karen McNeil-Miller, president and CEO of The Colorado Health Foundation. “All of us at the Foundation wish him the best in this next chapter. His legacy of impact and commitment to the mission will continue to inspire the work ahead.”

With Evans’ retirement, The Colorado Health Foundation will seek a new Chief Financial and Administrative Officer to build on his legacy and continue driving financial and operational excellence in support of its mission. Additional information will be shared on the Foundation’s website.
