Carlos Martinez Joins the Colorado Health Foundation’s Board of Directors

DENVER, CO – The Colorado Health Foundation named Carlos Martinez as the newest member of its Board of Directors.

Carlos Martinez is the Executive Director of the Latino Community Foundation of Colorado (LCFC), where he leads efforts to expand philanthropy by Latinos and support nonprofit organizations serving the Latino community in Colorado. Started as an initiative of the Rose Community Foundation, LCFC recently announced that it will transition to an independent grantmaking entity in 2019. Previously, Martinez served as CEO of GLBT Community Center of Colorado. He is vice president of the Denver Public Library Commission.

Before coming to Denver, Martinez was the Executive Director of the Fresno Art Museum in Fresno, California. His work there led to his joining the California Arts Council. Martinez completed graduate coursework and holds a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Dominguez Hills.

“It is an honor to join the Board of Directors at the Colorado Health Foundation, as I am inspired by their mission to improve the health of Coloradans,” says Martinez. “I look forward to collaborating with others on the Board to help ensure everyone in our state has the opportunity to live a healthy life.”

Martinez brings 28 years of nonprofit sector experience to his appointment, much of it in an executive position. LCFC has grown under his leadership to become a key player in the philanthropic sector of Colorado. One of only a few Latino community foundations in the country, the organization invested over $1 million in grants, direct community support and other programs in 2017.

“We are excited to welcome Carlos to this important role with the Foundation,” shared Karen McNeil-Miller, president and CEO of the Colorado Health Foundation. “Carlos has a deep understanding of how nonprofits operate and how to build the capacities of communities toward sustainability and equity. Over his career, he has demonstrated a commitment to inclusiveness and community investment that will be an asset to us and those we exist to serve.”
