As a student in high school, Devin knew her passions involved both critical thinking and how all can achieve better health. And ever since earning her undergraduate degree, she has worked in a variety of capacities in the field of public health, ranging from policy work to research and evaluation.
After initially joining the Foundation as an evaluation intern in the summer of 2018, Devin enhanced her skillset around strategy development and evaluation, while learning the intricacies of doing this work through the lens of philanthropy. A recent graduate of Colorado School of Public Health’s Master of Public Health program, Devin joined the Learning & Evaluation team in a full-time capacity in early 2019. Devin plans to dedicate her career to organizations advancing social causes and building healthier communities.
In her role, Devin makes meaning of complex qualitative and quantitative data centered on the Foundation’s grantmaking strategy in order to guide decision-making. She also asks challenging questions to ensure equity is top-of-mind in how our Philanthropy, Grantmaking Operations and other teams are evaluating their impact. The need for clear and formalized strategy development cuts across all teams at the Foundation, allowing Devin to engage with and learn about a broad range of efforts we advance to bring health in reach for all Coloradans.
Originally from Chicago, Devin notes that her love of public health started in childhood. As she grew in her understanding of the social determinants of health and the many factors involved in leading healthy lives; she also learned about the systems of oppression and barriers of inequity that keep people unhealthy.
A recent Colorado resident and new to her internship, one of Devin’s highlights was visiting Alamosa and the San Luis Valley as part of the Foundation’s locally-focused work. She expressed that being in community contextualized the spirit and togetherness that highlights the true meaning of our work.
Devin has developed a love for running in adulthood, which has become her healthiest habit. She’s completed half-marathons and you can often find her trail running on the weekends with her pup, Sasha, right alongside her. In Devin’s spare time, she plays her heart out for the Foundation’s seasonal recreation league volleyball team, the Changemakers.
Life is good for Devin when she’s traveling somewhere new—whether it’s a six-hour drive away to an adventure in New Mexico or camping in a mountain town just outside of Denver.
