Leonardo Kattari

For nearly 20 years, Leonardo Kattari’s career in social work has been defined by an unwavering passion for advancing health equity and justice. Their background in health education, health policy, community mobilization and advocacy through storytelling laid the groundwork for their work at The Colorado Health Foundation.

As the Foundation’s Senior Officer for Public Opinion Insights, Leo collaborates with advocates, community leaders and policymakers to transform public opinion research into actionable strategies. They develop thoughtful approaches for sharing research findings to inform decision-making, mobilize support and inspire people across the ideological spectrum to champion policies advancing health equity and racial justice.  

With a Ph.D. in Social Work from Michigan State University, Leo’s academic research shined a light on the lived experiences of transgender and gender diverse (TGD) individuals and allies, with a special focus on civic engagement as a catalyst for meaningful community change.  “I’m committed to putting research into action to improve the health and wellbeing of all Coloradans by centering the unique lived experiences and narratives of the diverse people and communities that make Colorado great. Throughout my career, I have actively promoted anti-racism and anti-oppression by working to address discrimination and bias from an intersectional lens and using advocacy through storytelling to change hearts and minds for transformative change.”

Leo’s favorite moments are spent exploring Colorado’s breathtaking trails and sipping iced coffee at local cafés. A committed advocate and community builder, Leo views life as most fulfilling when it includes intentional connections with people, places, and pets.
