Economic opportunity is foundational to individuals’ and communities’ well-being and is a primary social determinant of health. Income and wealth influence many aspects of a person's life, such as the ability to afford housing and access to health care, food, and more. In short, the less income an individual has and the less wealth they accumulate, the further out of reach health and well-being are.
Our efforts to support economic opportunity in Colorado take many forms, including advocating for policies that support small businesses and high-quality employment opportunities for low- to moderate-income individuals. This includes fostering more equitable access to government funding for diverse small businesses and creating the conditions for more businesses to convert to employee ownership models. In partnership with advocacy organizations who are on the front lines of policy change, The Colorado Health Foundation seeks to ensure our state has as many pathways to economic opportunity for Colorado communities as possible.
