The Licona Award Honors Health Equity Builders

Across Colorado there are many people doing the work to make health and well-being easier to access for their communities – and all Coloradans.

Across Colorado there are many people doing the work to make health and well-being easier to access for their communities – and all Coloradans. These community pillars collaborate with nonprofits, government agencies and businesses to remove the barriers that keep those with less power, privilege and income from having what they need to live how they want to live. Through the Dr. Virgilio Licona Community Health Leadership Award, The Colorado Health Foundation can learn about, and award, this vital work.

For the Foundation, reaching health equity means that each Coloradan has what they need to live a healthy life. Community leaders strive to reach this goal by using their time, expertise and dedication to meet their communities’ needs as well as changing current systems in ways that positively impact people throughout our state. The Licona Award allows The Colorado Health Foundation to learn about these leaders, highlight their work, and celebrate the difference they are making.

In addition to public recognition, Licona awardees also receive $20,000 to donate to the nonprofit of their choice. These funds support the work of organizations dedicated to creating health equity. Simply put, the Licona Award not only thanks a nonprofit leader each year, but also helps them further their efforts to create health equity in our state.

If you know a nonprofit leader in your community who is serving others at both a community level and a systems level, please nominate them for the 2024 Dr. Virgilio Licona Community Health Leadership Award. Applications are open until March 29, 2024.
