Social-Emotional Skill Building (SESB) Initiative

Promote positive social-emotional development for children ages zero to five by providing training and coaching in the Pyramid Model to early child care and education professionals in the San Luis Valley.

Engaging Youth in Healthy Eating and Active Living

Use a Collective Impact approach to enable three communities throughout Colorado to design and implement effective strategies that involve youth in school and out of school in developing solutions to healthy eating and active living (HEAL) challenges.

Coordinated School Health at New Legacy Charter High School: Capacity Building, Partnership Development, and Initial Implementation

Plan and successfully launch a Coordinated School Health Model at New Legacy Charter High School, a new school for pregnant and parenting teens opening in fall 2014 in northwest Aurora. The grant would provide funding to purchase health and parenting curricular resources, hire several key personnel responsible for school wide health integration and provide them adequate planning time for launching the new school, build capacity through professional development and support for key personnel, and develop partnerships with other relevant community organizations and providers.

Girls Get Fit

Implement Girls Get Fit - a comprehensive health and wellness program for the 400 adolescent girls per year who come to Excelsior Youth Center for residential treatment. Girls Get Fit will work in concert with the girls' clinical treatment to accelerate their recovery.

Community Farms: Increasing Healthy Food Access in the City

Expand urban community farming programs to increase access to, and consumption of, healthy food in the Denver metro area. Sprout City Farms currently feeds 1,500 people with produce grown on a one-acre community farm at the Denver Green School, and have plans underway to significantly increase impact by breaking ground on a second farm in spring of 2014.

Center Health and Wellness Programs

Implement various health focused programs in an effort to increase fruits and vegetable consumption and physical activity. Proposed programs include providing fruits and vegetable snacks, after-school physical activity programming, summer recreation programming, healthy vending options, and updating current equipment and supplies to meet demand.

Playground Safety Renovation

Replace the pea gravel in community playground with a poured-in-place rubberized surface. The purpose of this project is to improve the safety of the preschool children who play on the play structure as well as community members who also use the playground.
